Presidents Evening

Members at the President' Evening
This event, held on January 14th, was attended by over 50 members. An excellent buffet was provided by the committee and everyone enjoyed a few glasses of wine. The raffle raised £85 towards the cost of the evening. Terry Foreman outlined briefly the desire of the Association to attract new, younger members to join and requested all members to help in this campaign.

Members were also asked to complete a brief questionnaire, which has been designed to ensure that we get back from our members their views on what developments they would like to see in the activities of the Association. We have attached a copy of the questionnaire in case you were unable to attend the evening.

Press Articles

In recent months the Alresford Advertiser has run three articles on the Association, with the aim of raising our profile in the community and attracting new members. We are grateful to Mo Farrell for helping us meet this objective. As a result of this press coverage we have had contact from four new couples, hoping to join us.

Membership

It is a clear aim and objective of the Association to attract new members, especially those with young families. I would encourage each and all of us to talk to friends and relatives, sports colleagues and neighbours to help us develop a strong and energetic association for the future.

Web site

We have been actively working with Roy Gentry, who designed and runs the Alresford Town web site, to get the Twinning site up and running. The new web site can be viewed at www.alresford-twinning.org.uk. I think once you have seen this, you will agree that this is an exciting way of presenting ourselves to the community. I would personally like to thank Roy, Marian Baldwin and Cathy Swann for helping on this project.

Schools Liaison

A successful meeting has been held with the Modern Languages department at Perins and we are looking at new opportunities of working together and involving young children. As a first step we will be putting an Alresford Twinning notice board in the department and will be running a competition for the children with Easter Egg prizes awarded at the end of this current term.

Sports Club Activities

We have written to a number of sports clubs to follow up on the success of the Badminton visit. The Tennis Club has already expressed an interest in sending a team over on our next visit. I am hopeful that some other clubs will follow suit, once I have had the opportunity to speak to them personally.

Bricquebec Committee

The AGM in Bricquebec will take place on 11th February, when they will be considering a number of initiatives we have proposed to them. They should also be able to confirm back a date for our visit in May.

Social Events

We have attached to this newsletter, a list of the events planned for the year. We will naturally update you as and when we have more detail.

It has been extremely encouraging for myself as the incoming President to see the progress we are making and am enthusiastic about the way forward.

We look forward to seeing you all at our next social event and welcoming a "host" of new members too.
