Alresford Twinning Association
New Alresford is twinned with Bricquebec, a small market town with an old Norman castle, located only 25 Km south of the ferry port at Cherbourg on the Cotentin peninsular in Normandy. Like Alresford, Bricquebec is well positioned both from a commercial and tourist perspective. It is only a short drive to either, the western facing beaches with views across to the Channel Islands, or the Normandy WWII landing beaches to the East.
Bricquebec has also developed strong Twinning links with the German town of Lachendorf and all three associations have met before in Bricquebec to enjoy a variety of social events.
The Alresford Twinning Association was officially formed in 1981 and copies of the Twinning Charter can be viewed either in the Library, St John’s Church or a low resolution image can be found on this website. Since its formation the Twinning Association has helped promote friendships and links both between individuals, local businesses, sports and social clubs, as well as between schools and colleges.
It is our express desire to build on this and to encourage the formation of much wider links between the two communities. In particular we are keen to attract younger people and families to become involved with the Association, to share in the “French experience ” and to ensure the continuation and development of relationships into the future! Apart from planned annual exchange visits, COVID travel restrictions permitting, we also arrange a number of social events in Alresford throughout the year for our members. A list of forthcoming activities can be found by clicking on “Events” and “Latest News”.
We hope that this site and the various links will give you a flavour of the Association and its activities, and an appreciation of the very special link that exists between New Alresford and Bricquebec.
